The Purdue Debris yearbook first uses the image of a barrel-chested, mallet-wielding boilermaker called "Pete."

The Rube Goldberg Machine Contest goes national.


The Class of '39 Water Sculpture, standing at the center of Purdue Mall, is dedicated. It is also known as the Purdue Mall Fountain, or less accurately as the Engineering Fountain.


The Class of 1950 Lecture Hall opens for classes.


The Smoke Stack is demolished in order to be replaced with a bell tower.


The bells from the second Heavilon Hall are used in the construction of the Purdue Bell Tower .

Prospective Student On-Campus Visits

The best way to find out if Purdue is right for you is to experience it for yourself!

You can schedule your visit most weekdays through the year and Saturdays during the academic year. We have plenty of full-day visit programs during the fall and spring. Be sure and get on our mailing list to be the very first to receive invitations to on-campus visit programs.

Introducing Purdue

Introducing Purdue is a full-day visit program in the spring semester that is open to all high school freshmen, sophomores, and juniors. It offers the perfect opportunity to learn more about Purdue. Students who attend will have the chance to talk with academic advisors, tour the campus, visit the residence halls, and hear what current Purdue students are saying about life on campus. This program is offered on multiple days in March and April.

Daily Visits

Daily visits are available year-round four times each day, Monday through Friday, and include a presentation and student-guided walking tour. With some exceptions, daily visits last about three hours. During the school year, an abbreviated Daily Visit is available most Saturdays.

Boiler Up! at Purdue

This on-campus program for high school students each September features an information fair, admissions sessions, and tours of the campus and residence halls. Participating students receive a complimentary ticket to that day's Purdue football game and family members may purchase additional game tickets.

Fall Preview Days

Fall Preview Days are full-day visit programs in the fall semester during which high school students can attend an information fair, meet with representatives from Purdue's colleges and schools, tour the campus and residence halls and enjoy a complimentary lunch in a student dining court. Fall Preview Days are offered on multiple days during the fall semester.
